Cops

In the pilot, officers from Broward County, Fla., are observed during one weekend. Included: a crack house is busted; suspected drug dealers are arrested. A raid on a home belived to contain drugs. Suspected drug traffickers are arrested at an airport; a body is found floating in a canal; and an officer discusses his relationship with a colleague.

The show moves to Portland, Ore., where narcotics agents from the Multnomah Sheriff's Dept. apprehend a drug dealer.

(3:35 PM Officer Assistance Call) A code 3 call comes in. Sgt. Larry Wilens responds to it on 46th street. The suspect is barricaded. Officers tried to serve a warrant to 63 year-old Kenneth Lynn and he shot at police twice through the door, but missed them. (Tactical Team Briefing) Deputy Chief Doug Smith says they asked Ken to come out to talk to him for neighborhood problems – smell and trash. They are trying to make contact with him and find out from neighbors if anyone else lives there since he could have hostages. The teams face is covered, they are inside perimeter, they can use gas on him if necessary. If he has a long rifle he can get them. They have to stay back and use high risk entry tactics. The team has to survey the house, will be close enough where he could hit them with a rock. (Negotiation Team Command Post) Neighbors stated he suffered a head trauma injury in WWII, but has never been to the hospital for mental illness, he has very poor eyesight, cataracts, heavy smoker, emphysema, bronchitis, hasn’t drank for 13 years, but if he’s drinking again he’ll be very hostile and, negative. He just was in detox 2 weeks ago – a good sign he’s been drinking again. His personal info is on the board “DOB 8/20/27 or 29, divorced, ex-wife Mildred (lives with Gail) alcoholic who gets hostile when he drinks, has 4 children.” One cop knows him, didn’t know he was a problem. Sgt. Charles Resch says he’s a loner, has 3 or 4 old cars, his mom died 8 years ago, he’s kind of weird. The cop who was shot at says it went right between them, splinters of the door hit him. Officer Rick Stanek says he has a 300 rifle, 3-4 shotguns with ammo, a German Luger, 38 & 45 revolver and a 25 automatic according to his son. Two weeks ago he called in for a report and they took him to detox instead of taking a report so he’s mad at the cops. They get a call of an attic. Cops back up with blast shield, they run behind a car, stay low. They hide behind a car, want to get close to shoot gas and others wait next door at 4800. They want to negotiate, get him on the phone, if he won’t answer they’ll throw in a phone. Anything to talk him out, gas is the last chance, no turning back then. Sgt. Robert Gretton explains about the phone they are throwing in that will go back to the team directly to negotiate with them. The team goes up heavily armed with a shield, one smashes the window with a crowbar and the next tosses the phone in a bag. They call at 4:44 PM that it is in. They beep it from the station and Larry calls for him to pick up. Outside they call in to pick up the phone. Larry wants to help, tells him open it up and pick it up. He picks up. He doesn’t blame him, they are both sick of listening to the beeper, what’s going on? He can hear him. Then he hangs up. (6:25 PM) He said he’s sick of the beeping and cut the line. Officer Dave Mattson is outside in camo gear. They want cold beers, fresh women and a pizza. Larry calls again. Sgt. John Hennessy says to be very authoritative, this is what they want him to do, no more playing around, for his own good. (8:08 PM) Larry tells him he has to talk to him. Ken says he had to tend to his dog’s foot and put peroxide on it. What’s all the yelling about? They want to talk to him. He says they like to hear themselves talk it’s so loud. Larry says it’s been an hour and half since he talked to him. People are going to react to him. What is it going to take to get him out? He wants Cordell and Ruben Johnson. He says Cordell is there. He says he’s not. That’s what they tell him, he can’t come on though. He won’t trust a cop, it’s like trusting Dillinger. Larry says if he puts Cordell on will he come out. He might. If he does something for Ken he has to so something for him. The team outside creeps around to get drinks and come back, knees are killing them and they are thirsty. They cut his power. He doesn’t give a crap, doesn’t need it. He needs him to come out, he has people lined up. Are you afraid of...

(MO - East Patrol) Officer Kevin Tempel describes the Crime Tips program. Kids come up to them and they give them baseball cards with Royals players on the front and crime tips on the back. They stopped it, but kids still asked so they reinstituted the program. He stops three kids and has them show their muscles and gives them some baseball. A drive-by shooting, suspected shoplifter, domestic call.

From Los Angeles, California, a car-jacking, suspected thieves hide in the police tow-yard and a stabbing.

From Tampa, Florida. Police set up a sting operation, a man is asleep in the road, officers investigate a possible suicide and gunfire.

From Miami, Florida. A motorist refuses to pull off the road, officers investigate a car theft and a suicide attempt.

COPS Episode #1001 from Las Vegas, Nevada. Calls include a stolen van; a methamphetamine bust and suspicious suspects are questioned.

From Atlanta, Georgia. A drug dealer is questioned, a dispute erupts between transients and a car thief is caught sleeping in a stolen van.

In Indianapolis, Indiana, a suspect breaks a police blockade, a speeder carries pot and parents lock out their children.

From Jacksonville, Florida. Stories include officers with a drug dealer, a stolen vehicle and a burglary.

In Palm Beach, Florida, a man threatens to kill people at an car rental company when they refuse to rent him a car and a driver throws something out a vehicle window that draws suspicion.

A police office goes under cover as a clown to nab suspected prostitutes; police deal with some unusual criminals.

(7:20 PM Roll Call) Sgt. Al Miller gives the rules about flashing. A man dressed as a pirate flashes his penis and gets arrested. A female impersonator is caught showing it's breasts in front of the club it works at. Dave claims a woman stole $100 from him for beers and started fighting. It takes five cops to arrest him and he is bleeding profusely from his head. (10:43 PM Lewd Conduct) A drunk couple is caught having sex in the street. The guy is from Chicago, so doesn't know better. (10:58 PM Assault Call) A girl spit on a doorman and gets arrested. She did it because she says he was rude and mean to her and can't believe she is going to jail. (11:34 PM Plainclothes Operations) A big fat black guy is caught running a three card monty table. He tries to run and gets caught and lies that he didn't know it was illegal, even though he had a lookout who is also busted. (12:09 AM) A Mexican man with blinking earrings is arrested for peeing in the street. He says he knows his rights. His friend is busted too. 5/15/04

In the 18th season premiere, deputies Marc Taub and Joseph Ensminger of the Travis County, TX, Sheriff's Office question the residents of a home that has been burglarized and we learn that someone went into the house and completely trashed it. However, there is no sign of forced entry and nothing is missing from the property. The complainant and his friend, who appear inebriated, explain that they think they know who did it, and they believe it occurred because they would not smoke enough pot with him. Deputies take fingerprints from an article in the kitchen and advise the residents to be careful about whom they hang out with. In another segment, Corporal Bev Genevish, Officer James Presley and Lt. J.T. Strickland of the Gwinnett County, GA, Police Department investigate a call about a car hitting person riding a bike. At the scene, the driver's car has run off the road, and while the vehicle's windshield and hood are both damaged, the driver claims to have no memory of hitting anyone. As the investigation continues, a bloodied young boy stumbles toward officers, but the injury has impaired his memory and he cannot remember how it happened.

COPS from Palm Springs, CA.; Chattanooga, TN; and Palm Beach County, FL. This episode features a deputy who pulls over a vehicle after which the driver runs and is tazered; a female bicyclist runs a stop sign and is stopped and after a search, drugs are found; and a man is arrested on a warrant for suspicion of sexual battery.

COPS starts it 20th season with stories from Kansas City Missouri, Lee County, Florida and Rialto, California. Stories include a stolen vehicle pursuit involving shots fired; a domestic violence call involving drugs; and a man with windshield glass sticking out of his head, denying he was in a nearby car accident.

The beginning of season 21 finds the series back where it began, with the Broward Sheriff’s Office. First up, the officers chase down a hit and run driver. A long run ends with a ramming, followed by an investigation of the vehicle which uncovers a machete. Next, a known drug area finds a man on a bicycle who tries to flee. A search reveals cocaine on a man who is on probation. Lastly, officers are responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle near a business. The driver begins to flee as officers arrive. An investigation uncovers a bleary-eyed man behind the wheel who claims to be sleeping, yet a bag of white powder gives the officers another idea.

The COPS Season 22 opener includes a Las Vegas Metro police officer and the Las Vegas fire department trying to deal with a suspect who resists arrest, and a suspicious driver refuses to pull over.

On the 23rd season premiere, COPS celebrates a monumental 800th episode milestone with all the action indicative to the long-running series, including a chase, drug busts and more. An officer from the Boynton Beach Police Department in Florida chases a man fleeing his car by foot only to find what the suspect failed to hide. Another officer from Boynton Beach receives a call about a boa constrictor spotted in a residential area. Meanwhile, officers from the Harris County Sherriff's Office in Texas stop a victim for a routine traffic violation that ends in a drug bust and a charge of grand theft auto

In the 24th-season opener, undercover cops are held at gunpoint in Las Vegas. Also: Narcotics and a concealed weapon are found in a car in Tampa; and police in Lafayette, La., check out a suspicious car and make arrests for solicitation and prostitution.

The 25th season kicks off. Patrolmen from the Toledo Police Department in Ohio respond to a domestic disturbance call involving a woman and her boyfriend, whom she claims threatened her with a knife. Next, when a feral zebra is found running through city streets, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department must work with an animal trainer to contain the zebra so it can be returned to safety. Finally, the Police Bureau in Portland, OR responds to a disturbance call involving a suspect carrying a large stick and a rock chasing another man on a highway overpass.

A suspect flees when police are called to the scene of a fight, a meth user refuses to cooperate with authorities and a grumpy husband gets arrested for possession of pot after his wife knocks over his Harley motorcycle.

A cyclist gives officers a bloody fight; a scared caregiver tries to evict an unwanted helper; tinfoil lands an unlicensed driver in hot water.

An armed trespasser uses a young dog as a shield. A woman under the influence goes on a rampage, tearing into homes and people. A cat lady calls the cops when her neighbors get nosy.

A motorcyclist gambles with his life during a high-speed chase. One lawbreaker will say anything to avoid being caught. A recent parolee blames Mom when the cops question him about his past.

A wanted man makes a desperate decision after he flees on foot. An overprotective girlfriend questions the cops and finds herself in cuffs. A jealous man loses more than his girlfriend after he picks a fight with her son.
