A.J. Simon is a polished fellow with a taste for classic cars and tailored suits. Rick Simon is his less refined (but still pleasant) older brother who has a taste for cowboy boots and four-wheel drive pickups. The two of them live in San Diego, where they own a private detective agency.

The step-daughter of a news anchor is missing and the Simons are hired to find her, but when they do, the plot thickens.

Rick and AJ are in Hawaii tailing a con artist who Higgins has just entrusted with $350.000 proceeds from his charity event-the three follow her to South America where they reel her in with a con of their own, using a huge emerald and AJ as bait.

A magician hires the Rick and AJ to find out how a rival stole his spectacular new trick.

The Simons follow their mother to Paris where she has an affair with a suave Frenchman, but is he all that he seems?

A wedding sets the stage, as Rick falls in love with their client (who suspects her husband is having an affair) and AJ proposes to Liz.
Season 6
A large PI firm moves into the Simons office building vowing to drive them out of business, meanwhile, they're trying to get their client, a charter boat captain, the insurance settlement she deserves for the boat that blew up.
Season 7
Arrested for wiretapping, the Simons seek help from Downtown Brown and find he has been replaced by a tough new chief detective.
Season 8
An old friend of the Simons, Beth, shows up in their office after finding a blackmail note given to one of the beauty contestants in her pageant. She's responsible for the pageant going off smoothly, so she wants the Simons to go undercover and find out who is being blackmailed by whom. With a sparkle in his eye, Rick decides that AJ will enter as a contestant while he will show up as a judge. AJ is less than happy about it, especially the swimsuit competition, but grudgingly agrees to do it. Things get more serious when the pageant host stumbles upon the blackmailer being beaten by two toughs. The blackmailer, realizing the host must have heard that he owed money to a loan shark, kills him. A pageant contestant finds the body and is immediately suspected of being the murderer. It turns out that she was the one being blackmailed because she was kicked out of her family for being an unmarried mother. Rick or A.J.? I always liked Rick, he reminded me of family. A.J. always kind of reminded me of the family that was never around when you needed them.
But you know what, they were both relatable and exceptional characters to follow in a string of TV shows in the 80s that focused on detectives....I would LOVE to have those back, wouldn't you? Trade in all the police procedural in the world for those.
Anyway, it was mainly forgotten, and that is a shame, because it was a GREAT depiction of how siblings squabble and fight and yet still stick together. It's a bit smarter than people give it credit for, but that doesn't matter because it is endlessly entertaining.
